Suffering

A number of ministries are currently talking about suffering, what with the tough economic times and so forth. 1. We live in a fallen world, and bad stuff happens. This is not God trying to teach us a lesson, although God can and does turn evil for good. 2. Satan is a liar and a deceiver. His tools are sickness, poverty and death. If you see these things in your life, it is not God correcting you. Sin has consequences, and God will not necessarily give you a free "get out of jail card." He WILL forgive your sin when you confess it and ask for forgiveness. 3. God does not correct us by trying to kill us or our family members. Hopefully, your earthly father did not do it that way either. 4. When God corrects us, He does it with the Word. Or more specifically with what the Word says. What should a Christian Do Who Wants To Be A Good Citizen? Recently, I had a discussion with a Pastor about what you can, or cannot say from the pulpit. His position was that you are only to preach the truth of the Gospel and pray. This follows the old line of “don’t mix religion and politics.” The real question might be “does a Pastor give up his constitutional rights when he stands in the pulpit.” We agreed that the United States is heading in the wrong direction both governmentally and spiritually. We also agreed that the U.S. two-party system is flawed with both Congress and the Senate ineffective and corrupt whether Democrat or Republican. There are lots of organizations pointing out problems, but few proposing workable solutions. Left vs. Right Could the Left be right? Or is Right wrong?

Years ago, before atheists came up with political correctness, and other nonsense, there was the Democratic FarmerLabor Party and the Republican Party which replaced the Whigs and Torries, for some reason. The Democratic Party was the political representative of the common working man, who was honest, hard working, a patriot and believed in freedom of religion. While some members of the party might be described is having liberal views, most were very conservative.They believed that big business was their adversary, and sought to exploit the workers. Thus, they aligned with labor unions who promised to get them better pay and benefits if they would give them a portion of their pay. The Republican Party was the representative of the business owner and the management of large corporations. Most members were honest, hard-working, a patriot and believed in freedom of religion.
